It is no coincidence that blue has become one of the most popular colors for decorating bathrooms. It refreshes the room and is associated with cleanliness, and its “coolness” in this case does not scare anyone, because we associate water with it, and most water procedures should invigorate. This shade of blue is great for decorating small bathrooms - thanks to its blurred depth, such walls visually move away from the observer and the room seems more spacious.

Today we will look at photographs of blue bathrooms in city apartments and talk about what techniques will help make them beautiful and homely.

Although blue is not considered a neutral color, in its versatility it is very close to white, except that color schemes based on it will be more vibrant and interesting. When choosing a coating and the main shade for the walls, it is advisable to have an idea in advance of what kind of atmosphere you want to achieve in the bathroom. I hope my advice today will help you navigate this stage.

Glossy light blue tiles, chrome faucets, a large mirror, good lighting and snow-white fixtures are the most common option for our tiny bathrooms. Smooth and shiny surfaces have excellent reflectivity; such a room seems lighter and larger to us. The disadvantages of such an interior include: too cool a general atmosphere, official sterility and, in many cases, a lack of comfort and individuality.

For example, the bathroom will become more comfortable if you replace the strict glossy tiles with matte ones. Unfortunately, with such castling the room will be visually smaller. To prevent this from happening, we add to our palette the strongest “expander” of space - white. We cover the wall with matte tiles to 2/3 of the height, and paint the rest white. We add accessories in warm shades: yellow, orange, brown, and we get a welcoming and spacious bathroom in a Mediterranean style. A good example is in this photo:

To prevent visual compression of the room, follow a simple rule: while increasing the saturation and depth of color, simultaneously increase the amount of white.

This is where knowledge about the peculiarities of perception of primary colors comes in handy. In his book The Fundamentals of Color, Johannes Itten wrote: “The color blue in a composition produces a different impression depending on whether it is located at the top or bottom of the picture. At the bottom of the composition the blue color is heavy, but at the top it seems light.” We transfer the theory to our interior and conclude that when choosing a “tile + paint” wall covering, the most suitable options will be: light blue tiles below (2/3) and white paint on top, or white tiles below (1/3) and rich color above. The designers who created the bathroom interior from the photo below used the second option, resulting in a stylish and impressive interior that cannot be called devoid of individuality.

If you do not want to make a combined wall, you can use another well-known technique that helps to visually enlarge a small bathroom - laying mosaic tiles.

The interior will only benefit and will look more comfortable if the mosaic is not monochromatic, but multi-colored: monochrome (shades from light blue to dark blue) or combined.

The interiors of blue bathrooms, the walls of which are painted with waterproof paint, look homely. The effect is enhanced when chandeliers and dark brown wooden furniture are used in the design. Unfortunately, such luxury is difficult to implement in the interior of a small bathroom, unless it is combined with a toilet.

An original idea is to buy a clawfoot bathtub and paint the outside the same tone as the walls.

Textiles will be an excellent assistant in creating a cozy homely atmosphere in the bathroom. If you want a bright interior, do not buy curtains, towels and rugs that match the walls. It’s better to add colors and play with contrast, since blue is good in almost any combination.

The coolness of blue will be softened by warm colors: orange, yellow, brown, pink. In this case, each combination will look new. The most mature and juicy here is orange, deeper, but no less expressive is brown. A combination with yellow will create an optimistic spring mood in the bathroom (young people like such interiors). The design of a blue bathroom with pink accessories can be romantic and delicate, but you should select them especially carefully, leaning towards pastel shades and not allowing equal proportions so that feminine and masculine colors do not conflict.

Light green will look fresh and bright against blue walls, and although it is not classified as a warm shade, such a bathroom will delight you, reminding you of summer days.

Don’t forget about additional accessories: baskets, nets, holders for toothbrushes and towels. Their correct choice can significantly affect the mood in the bathroom. Take another look at my selection of photographs today and you will find a number of interesting ideas in this area.
