Despite all the achievements of civilization, if the faucet valve in the bathroom or kitchen is leaking, it is sometimes difficult to wait for help from a specialist from the management company. Therefore, the only way out is to repair the faucet valve yourself.

You will learn how to unscrew the faucet valve and repair it in our article.

Repair of faucet valve - general progress of work

First you need to determine the type of valve. If a conventional screw-on faucet is installed, it uses a rubber gasket. These are usually inexpensive models. And more expensive models, especially the so-called. “single-grip” joystick taps have a ceramic liner. Due to the characteristics of the material, ceramics are more durable. So, let's start the repair.

Do-it-yourself repair of a two-valve tap

First, carefully examine where exactly the water is flowing from.

I.

Shut off cold and hot water. And open the taps so that all the water drains out. Then unscrew the valve itself. And here many people have a question: how to remove the valve from the tap? There is nothing complicated here.

You need to remove the plugs from the valves.

1) First, unscrew the screws in the valves, covered with plugs (most often blue and red.

2) Carefully turn the valve box out counterclockwise using an adjustable wrench or screwdriver. Important! If the surface of the valve is nickel-plated or chrome-plated, then wrap the jaws of the key with cloth to prevent scratches.

3) If plumbers once tightened the valves too tightly, you will need another wrench. They hold the pipe so as not to tear it off.

4) The valve has been removed. Look for the rubber gasket, which is located at the end of the valve axle box (the locking part in the mixer handle) and replace it with a new one. But before this, the valve is slightly cleaned.

5) For compaction, tow or fum tape is wound in 5-7 layers in the direction of twisting the thread. Sometimes the so-called "Tangit" thread. It is wound in two layers, first along the thread, and back - along the protrusions of the threaded thread.

6) Screw the valve into place.

Important! It must be tightened with a little force, i.e., twisting it a little at the end.

II. III. 1.

1) Clean the threads of the pipe and valve with a brush and wind a new seal.

2) Screw the valve into place. If the tap valve still leaks, tighten the connection a little.

How to disassemble a faucet without valves - repairing a ball mixer

Now let's look at how to repair a single-jaw ball valve without valves. Most often it leaks from under the top cover. In this case:

Repair of a single-lever single-grip crane

1. Shut off the supply of cold and hot water.

2. Remove the decorative plug, behind which the screw securing the handle is hidden. Usually this plug is blue and red in color or simply has the manufacturer's logo on it.

3. Using a hexagon, unscrew the screw connecting the adjusting rod and the handle.

4. Remove the lever from the housing and remove the removable cartridge filter using a spanner.

5. Install a new cartridge and assemble the tap in the reverse order.

6. If you only need to prevent faucet overflow:

1) Carefully remove and clean the aerator, which is attached to the bottom of the faucet spout.

2) Replace the gasket with a new one.

And finally, it is worth noting a few nuances. Today, taps are connected to the water supply, usually using flexible hoses. Therefore, if you decide to repair the faucet valve, then check this line for damage. If the flexible wiring has been in service for more than 3 years, replace it.

Some faucet models have a strainer installed at the inlet, which needs to be checked. If the tap or thread does not unscrew, do not apply much force. To remove them, first soak them in kerosene or WD40.
