For a small family, a saucepan with a capacity of 1.7-2 liters will be enough; they are usually sold together with glass lids, which can be used as plates if necessary.
We all love sweets, but we don’t always know what kind of dishes can be used in the microwave for baking.

For biscuits, casseroles, muffins, etc., use thick-walled ceramic or earthenware molds or fireproof glass dishes. Do not use oiled paper - it may catch fire.

Tip: for baking muffins and small casseroles, you can use regular thick-walled glasses. Glass candy bowls, salad bowls or dishes without defects would also be good. Before baking, the walls of this dish must be greased with oil.

Try to purchase microwave pots only from well-known, well-proven brands; it is better to spend a little more, but get a good assistant for many years. In such dishes it is convenient and safe to both cook and store cooked food.

Plastic dishes

Now let's look at plastic containers. Many people think that they can be used indiscriminately in the microwave, but this is not true! You need to be careful with plastic, because sometimes its composition is such that under the influence of microwaves it can not only release substances harmful to the body.

When purchasing such cookware, you need to carefully examine it and ensure its suitability. How to do it? Choosing the right plastic dishes is not difficult: there should be a special marking on the bottom of the containers, where a microwave oven is schematically depicted, and the maximum heating temperature should be at least 130-140 degrees.

You should not buy cheap plastic containers without identification marks and markings.

Try to choose only well-known manufacturers, otherwise even the applied markings do not guarantee the quality of the product. A proven and well-known brand always provides its products with certificates of conformity and quality, which the buyer can view at the point of sale.

Beware of plastic utensils made in China, as this country often uses the cheapest raw materials and production.
The following types of plastic are suitable for microwave ovens:

  • polyamide
  • polypropylene

Plastic dishes are not suitable for this mode. It is also not recommended to use plastic for fatty and sweet foods, as these products become very hot, which can cause the plastic to begin to melt.

Professional chefs do not recommend using plastic utensils at home; it is better to choose natural materials, such as ceramics or glass, and also use the latest developments in the field of microwave oven utensils, for example, glass-ceramic molds.

What to use for grilling

You can cook meat or fish on the grill without using microwaves, so the requirements for cookware are not so strict. What dishes can be used in a microwave grill?

The main condition is the use of non-flammable containers. It could even be metal products, but not plastic ones, as they will simply melt.

A microwave oven often comes with a special grill - this is the best option for cooking, but do not forget that juice or fat may drip from it, so use a tray when frying.

If you strive to obtain an appetizing golden crust on meat, fish or vegetables, use glass ceramic cookware. The bottom of such a container is covered with a special coating that can heat up to high temperatures, resulting in an appetizing crust.

To achieve a better effect, you can preheat the dishes in the oven for a few minutes, and only then add the food, thus achieving the effect of instantly “sealing” the meat. The resulting dish will also be aromatic due to the fact that the resulting crust did not allow the juice to leak out.

It is very convenient to use the combined mode. It allows you to cook dishes with an appetizing crust using microwaves. This allows you to reduce the cooking time, but using metal utensils is unacceptable.

Heat-resistant utensils made of glass or glass ceramics will come to the rescue. Cookware that can withstand temperatures up to 240 degrees is considered fireproof.

Special pots for the microwave oven are not cheap, but the excellent results they produce are worth it!

In general, any utensil can be tested to see if it can be used in a microwave oven. If you are not sure about your pan or baking dish, do this test: pour water into a thick-walled, faceted glass and place it in the container being tested.

Place this structure in the oven and turn on maximum power for 1 minute. Check: if the water is hot but the dishes are not, feel free to use them in the microwave. Bon appetit!
