Metal posts are one of the main elements of barbed wire fences and fences made of lightweight materials - for example, corrugated sheets or slate. The strength of the pillars and their proper installation largely ensure the reliability and stability of the entire structure, so the choice of the type of supports and the method of their installation is decisive.

The easiest and cheapest way to install supports for light fences or barbed wire barriers is to drive a post into the ground, but this is not very reliable and is not feasible on all types of soil. During the installation of supports, the pillar can be completely concreted or a combined method can be used, in which the pillar is concreted at the surface and buried below. This is quite long, labor-intensive and not always economically justified. The best way installation of wire barriers and fences is the use of screw posts, which have a number of fundamental advantages. The screw posts are metal pipe different lengths with a flange and blades, thanks to which the support is screwed into the ground.

History of invention

It is reliably known that the world's first patent for the invention of barbed wire was issued in the United States on November 24, 1874 to Illinois farmer Joseph Glidden. The motive for this invention is also known. Starting from the second half of the 19th century, the rapid development of cattle breeding and farming began. There is a catastrophic shortage of wood for fencing large areas. Attempts to create a cheap and durable fence have been made before, but only one of them ended in complete success. Barbed wire has begun to conquer the world! In 1875 alone, in the state of Texas alone, a relative of the inventor sold wire worth over $1 million. It soon became clear, however, that this invention was destined to become one of the most sinister in the history of mankind. And the first to feel it were the cowboys, whose services they simply no longer needed.

Bruno spiral

In addition to farmers, this invention was also appreciated by representatives of the general staffs of many European armies. The seemingly harmless wire changed the tactics of warfare, minimizing the possibility of active offensive actions. The war took on a trench character. During the First World War, tens of kilometers of the front line were surrounded by barbed wire fences; in some areas the depth reached several hundred meters. The use of deadly wire was facilitated by the so-called Bruno spiral - a barbed fence that can be quickly installed in several rows, despite enemy fire. Made in advance from barbed wire in the form of a compressed spring, it instantly stretched on the battlefield.

For the first time, barbed wire as a means of restricting movement was used in its own homeland - all in America in 1892. In Idaho, during a strike, miners were simply locked in their own city, surrounded by a barbed fence around the perimeter. The “successful” experience was adopted by the British in South Africa in 1900 during the war with the Boers, creating so-called “refugee camps” in the Orange Republic and then in the Transvaal. So neither Stalin nor Hitler can boast of authorship in this area - they only “popularized” this terrible invention.

So successful that its design is taken as the basis for modern spiral barriers, with the only difference being that instead of outdated barbed wire, they use Egoza razor tape.
