The Holy Scriptures, telling about the appearance of angels to various people, own name names only a few of them, apparently those who have a special mission in establishing the Kingdom of God on earth. Among them are the archangels Michael and Gabriel, mentioned in the canonical books of Scripture, as well as the archangels Rafail, Uriel, Salafiel, Yehudiel And Barachiel, mentioned in non-canonical books of Scripture. Archangel Gabriel usually appeared to some righteous people as a messenger of great and joyful events concerning the people of God (Dan. 8, 16, 9, 21; Luke 1, 19-26). In the book of Tobit Archangel Raphael says about himself: "I - Rafail, one of the seven holy Angels who offer the prayers of the saints and ascend before the glory of the Holy One" (Tob. 12, 15). Hence the belief arose that there are seven archangels in Heaven, one of which is archangel Michael.

The Church honors Archangel Michael as a defender of the faith and a fighter against heresies and all evil. On icons he is depicted with a fiery sword in his hand, or with a spear casting down the devil. At the beginning of the 4th century, the Church established the feast of the “Council” (i.e., the assembly) of the holy angels, led by Archangel Michael November 8(new: November 21).
Orthodox Christians believe that in addition to the visible physical world, there is also a spiritual, invisible world. We find confirmation of this in Holy Scripture. This world is inhabited by angels - incorporeal spiritual beings. Translated from ancient Greek, the word “angel” means “messenger”. Miracles of the Archangel Michael
Many Christians around the world have been able to personally verify the undeniable help that the heavenly intercessor provides to all who turn to him for help with faith and a pure heart. But where did his veneration come from in the first place?
Tradition indicates that the temple to the main angel was erected in Phrygia. Near this temple there was a spring with healing water. The temple was built by a man whose mute daughter spoke after drinking this water.
After the construction of the majestic temple, a variety of people from all over the area flocked to it, seeking recovery and spiritual help in their infirmities and troubles. Even many pagans received healing from the temple source, which led to mass renunciations of idolatry and baptisms into the faith of Christ. Of course, such a spread of the new faith could not go unnoticed by ardent pagans.
A certain man, Arkhippus, served in the new temple and was distinguished by his special piety and fear of God. Through his prayers and efforts, many opponents of Christianity were baptized and accepted the true faith. And so the enemies of Christianity, embittered at the saint, decided to kill him and at the same time destroy the temple they hated. To do this, they decided to connect the waters of two rivers that flowed nearby. The water was supposed to rush towards the temple in a single powerful stream, sweeping away everything in its path.
Having learned about the impending disaster, Arkhippus diligently read a prayer to the Apostle Michael, the very strong protection of which did not raise the slightest doubt in the saint. And a real miracle happened - the leader of the heavenly army, Michael, himself appeared near the temple. With his sword, he made a deep gap in the nearest rock, and all the water rushed there, bypassing the temple. Having witnessed such obvious divine intervention, the pagans became cowardly and ran away. Saint Archippus did not cease to thank the Lord together with his devoted disciples.
The memory of this miracle is celebrated in our church to this day, receiving the name of the miracle of the Archangel Michael in Khony.
Cathedral of the Archangel Michael
Another revered holiday of our church, associated with the leader of the heavenly army, is the Council of the Archangel Michael. The Holy Church celebrates it annually in November. On the day of this holiday, all the ethereal heavenly forces that protect us every day in earthly life are revered.
The prayer to Archangel Michael against evil forces on this day is of particular importance, since absolutely all ethereal entities populating the spiritual world take up the fight against the spirits of evil. The teachings of the Holy Church distinguish nine angelic ranks, which are all under the leadership of the supreme Archangel.
